Okay, so you have heard about bitcoin and you want to get started. You came to the right place. Follow this checklist and you'll be a bitcoin user in no time. If you don't know what bitcoin is, you might want to read this page.

1. Download and install the official bitcoin client. It is available for Windows, Linux, and Mac, so that covers most of you. The first time you run the program, it will start syncronizing with the bitcoin network (for the geeks-- downloading and scanning the block chain). This can take quite a while-- several hours to a day or even more. So get started on it as soon as possible.
